Family Farm

Over 40 plus years ago, four boys were raised on a Vermont hillside farm. Getting work done wasn’t a chore, it was a daily activity. Today, the farm continues to nourish the landscape and produce high quality products.

The farm started out raising beef in the 1970’s and then milked its first cow in 1978. Two young parents raising strong boys, gave them a workforce of opportunities. Milking cows has its ups and downs, especially the milk price. When it was time for the boys to take over, they transitioned to organic production in 2002. The first full year of being organic, the farm produced the overall highest quality milk in the state of Vermont. When people said it couldn’t be done the farm went on to do it for ten years in a row. Various state and national quality awards came through the farm every year. Quality was just part of the program.

Today, the dairy farm has transitioned back to beef animals. Raising certified organic animals and finding new ways to keep the working landscape in production. Along with our hay fields, the farm grows barley, winter rye, and heirloom corn for local whiskey production. In todays world, the family farm can only survive with diversification and relying on yourself.
